Arts Council of Sri Lanka and the State Photography Advisory Board have started accepting photographs for a new type of photo competition titled "Chande".
The specialty of this photo contest is to take a photo of any opportunity you see related to the election during this election season.
This is not limited to photographers. Anyone can participate in that. Also: small group activities in the community, at home, in the neighborhood, where you are, election rallies, propaganda methods, posters, banners, cut-outs, etc.; Every moment can be captured on your camera. This will undoubtedly be a new and challenging opportunity for you.
At the same time, something special should be remembered in this work. That is, following the advice of the Election Commissioner, taking photographs in a manner that does not violate election laws.

Another photography competition is organized by the Sri Lanka Arts Council and the State Photography Advisory Board. That is called "Rain".
Many artists write poems and songs about rain, and some artists write stories; Draws pictures. But photographers protect their cameras from the rain.
This is the opportunity to go out and capture the "rain" even when it is raining.
You can use any camera you have for this; Even if it's a smartphone camera, no problem.

The "Vesak Siri Asiri" Photo Exhibition jointly held by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Photographic Advisory Board was held 31st July at the National Museum Exhibition Hall at the Independance Square Avenue under the chairmanship of Mr. H.M.B.P.Herath, Secretary, Ministry of Buddhashasana, Religous and Cultural Affairs. On that day, the exhibition was opened by the Secretary of the Ministry and the Chairman of the Photography Advisory Council.

A new program initiated by the Arts Council of Sri Lanka aims to support and empower artists.
Today, a special discussion chaired by Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake, was held at the Auditorium of the National Heritage Division in Battaramulla to review the progress of the Arts Council's activities in 2023.
During the discussion, extensive talks were held on various topics, including the implementation of programs based on guidelines provided by the Arts Council, gathering feedback, establishing formal programs, and following up on their implementation. Additionally, there were discussions on implementing special programs tailored for Tamil-speaking artists, facilitating their work through artist ID cards, and updating the artists' directory with necessary guidelines.
Minister Vidura Wickramanayake expressed his support for the proposal put forward by Executive Member Prof. Dharmananda Wijesinghe to establish a sensitive cultural unit to address challenges posed by social media. He also agreed the proposal submitted by the Executive Council to communicate obstacles faced by the Arts Council to the Minister via letter.
Executive members of the Arts Council Professor Praneeth Abhayasundara, Professor Tudor Weerasinghe, Professor Yasanjali Devika Jayathilake, Professor S. Prashanthan and Secretary of the Arts Council Mr. K. H. Dayantha joined this event.

The book "Buddha Prathima Nirmana Kalawa" compiled by the Sri Lanka Arts Council as a community service, according to the instructions of the Minister of Buddhashana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake, as per the decision of the current Executive Committee, Hon. Chairman and Registrars of the Island's District and Regional Shasanarakshaka Mandala, Governors, District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries and Provincial Secretaries Distribution was started.
The book was written by Professor Jayasena Kottagoda, who has thoroughly studied the art of Buddha statue design. It is the current Chairman of the Sri Lanka Arts Council - Professor Praneeth Abhayasundara, Vice Chairman - Professor Tudor Weerasinghe, Executive Member - Senior Professor Yasanjali Devika Jayathilaka, Executive Member - Professor Sri Prashanthan and Executive Member - Lecturer in Journalism Mr. Dharmananda Wijesinghe. The members of the council were also of the opinion that this book is of an academic scale.
Therefore, Sri Lankan Buddha statue designs are made popular for use by designers and academics who study the art of design.

Nowadays, the concept of e-version of publication has become a popular method in the world. Accordingly, the members of the executive committee led by the present chairman have decided to start publishing the e-version of publications of the Arts council of Sri Lanka.
As the first step, the KALA Sangarawa of 2022 will be published for e-readers.

The State Drama Festival organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Advisory Board for Drama of Arts Council of Sri Lanka on the instructions of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, will be held from 17th February to 06th March 2022 at Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana.
12 length dramas and 20 short dramas were selected for the final round of the Festival. Length dramas are to be staged at 6.30 pm onwards while short dramas are to be staged at 5.30 pm as follows.

The radio broadcasting in Sri Lanka has a history of more than nine decades. It has been decided to hold the State Radio Awards Ceremony in the year 2022 concurrently with the World Radio Day to accolade the radio artistes. The ceremony is organized by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the State Advisory Council of Radio of the Arts Council of Sri Lanka.
