Vision

To usher in a creative art of photography of high caliber with the state intervention and contribute to escalate the power of appreciation of the people.

 

Long term objectives

Establish a formal educational entity at state level in order to propagate photography as an artistic and scientific medium of communication.  Planning and implementation of programmes at national level to maintain art of photography as qualitative medium.

 

Short term objectives

Organize a state photography award ceremony annually to achieve the long term and short term objectives.

State Advisory Board for photography has been established with the following objectives in view.

To accolade and encourage the artistes in the field

To propagate photography in the society

To guide the amateur artistes who enter into this field and to motivate them.

 

In addition, following 5 sub committees have also been established for the success of the Sate Photography Festival.

Henry Rajakaruna

Mr Henry Rajakaruna, with many national and international accolades as well as the state title of “Kalabooshana” bestowed upon his name, is the most decorated Fine Art Photographer in the country.

In his illustrious career spanning over five decades Mr Rajakaruna had mastered many genres of photography and been a Commercial, Event and a Wedding Photographer in addition to being the Master Fine Art Photographer he is. Like all the other experts of his generation he had done his own darkroom work and has been a printer and a lab owner as well.

Gunadasa Hettiarachchi

Mr G Hettiarachchi, as he is known in the field is an absolute veteran in the IME faculty and a true giant in the field of Sri Lankan photography. He got into photography at the the tender age of 13 and became one of the most successful commercial photographers of the country in a career spanning over six decades.

Mr Hettiarachchi worked for studio Donald’s until 1962, which was the most prestigious studio of country. He was then trained as a camera technician and repaired cameras under Mr Fred R Malwenna. In 1968 he started his own studio and printing lab ‘Fotofocus’ on Queen Street, Colombo Fort.

Sarath Jayasiri Perera

A specialist in commercial photography, Sarath Perera is well known in the advertising circles and has been working closely with some of Sri Lankas’ leading advertising agencies. Sarath is a visiting lecturer on photography at the Kelaniya University, Sri Lanka; his photographs are featured in many award winning campaigns and has received recognition and numerous accolades for the images he has captured during his work.

Operating from his studio in Rajagiriya, Sarath Perera takes pleasure in working with amateur photographers and utilises his time to share his wealth of knowledge on photography with them. He gets regularly invited to make presentations and deliver lectures, which he gladly accepts out of his love for photography and the need to share his insights with the future generations. On many occasions, he has been invited as a jurist for national and international photographic competitions.
